Surprising reaction for Tokyo

English Only...

I just completed to set up my new living environment. Since I knew heavy luggage should make me killed when I moved to new accommodation, I put up with buying some stuffs like baking soda (for cleaning), some small boxes, etc. But, finally bought them! Moreover, some registrations for NHS have been just done!

3 days has passed since I came to new room, I am totally satisfied with this high quality of life. Accommodation is new, my room has own bathroom, and the number of flatmates are just 4. Good start. Plus, this place is accessible to Business School and Libraries including Leaning Commons. Perfect. Aside from the fact that ventilator doesn't work.

This following three days, welcome party for the residents is held. I've met some future classmates and people from diverse background. Through this party, I found one thing. It is the reputation of Tokyo hasn't gone away.

When I introduced myself, all people asked a question.

Others: Where are you from in Japan?
Me: I'm from Tokyo.

I'm sure everybody looked like envying me. It seems to them that Tokyo is one of the coolest cities in the world. It was quite surprising for me because, personally, it's just my hometown and I know a lot of negative aspects of the city. Well, I have to say I know the other side of it. Tokyo is like a word 'Hirake-goma (開けゴマ)' in Japanese. Literally, their eyes were bigger with brightness.

I'm very happy with their reaction, at the same time, I've already looked forward to showing friends (and new ones, of course) TOKYO. Thanks for my habit to list some good restaurants in Tokyo, haha.

Anyway, the responses encourages me to learn more about my hometown. Through this one year, while I study management, I'll be an expert of Tokyo.
